The 18th annual of the International First Documentary Film Festival “LA PREMIERE FOIS” will take place in Marseille, March 2027.

The Festival “LA PREMIERE FOIS” is organized by LES FILMS DU GABIAN. The festival is not competitive. It aims to promote audience and professional appreciation for first documentary works and their authors, to facilitate encounters among film-makers of different generations, and to explore various approaches to documentary film-making and producing.

Submission is free of charge and involves acceptance of these conditions.

ARTICLE 1

The festival is open to first documentaries based on original and creative writing of any subject, genre, or aesthetic.

Films produced with journalistic or promotional intent are not eligible.

Films may be submitted by authors, directors, or production companies.

The festival accept movies finished after January 1st 2025. Every film can be send only one time.

Submission is open to any language, but the film has to be subtitled in French or English.

All selected films will be screened in the French original version or has to be send with French subtitles.

ARTICLE 2

To subscribe you have to fill the form online and put down a screener.

Call for entries are open until October 15th 2026.

ARTICLE 3

It is up to the authors to be in compliance with SACEM.

ARTICLE 4

Since the shortlist of festival selections will be published online, permission for the screening of a film at the festival is granted by the act of submitting that film.

The authors of the selected films are required to be present on the day on which the film that they have submitted is to be screened.

The beneficiaries of the selected films undertake to give the film’s broadcasting rights free of charge for at least two screenings as part of the festival.

The festival reserves the right to use extracts or photograms of selected films to promote the event.

ARTICLE 5

By confirming the settlement during the online registration of a film, the applicant declares to be aware of the regulations and agrees to enforce all terms.

ARTICLE 6

In partnership with the Lieux Fictifs association, the festival offers a selection of films to bring the festival to inmates: a program of screenings and discussions is thus offered during the festival—or at other times throughout the year if circumstances do not allow for simultaneous events—to inmates at the
Baumettes Post-Release Support Center (SAS) in a space dedicated to cinema: the Studio Image et Mouvement. Subsequently, the films in the selection and the discussions they sparked with the inmates are broadcast on the Marseille Correctional Center’s internal video channel. By submitting your film for consideration, you authorize the broadcast of the film you represent, as well as footage of the discussion that will be filmed, on the Marseille Correctional Center’s internal video channel within three years following the screening at the SAS.
